UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 - Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Kenseth Hits Jackpot in Las Vegas
Roush Racing has a history of hitting the jackpot in Las Vegas. Matt Kenseth gave Roush Racing their fourth win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the track‘s six events, taking the win in the UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400. Kenseth used a fast final pit stop to extend his race lead and went on to win by a whopping 9.104 seconds. Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished second behind Kenseth, followed by his teammate Michael Waltrip in third. Waltrip now sits atop the Winston Cup point standings, holding a three-point lead over Kenseth. Pole sitter Bobby Labonte finished fourth and teammate Tony Stewart came home in fifth.
Labonte Grabs Vegas Pole Position
After enduring a long day of inclement weather, Bobby Labonte will start the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from the pole position, thanks to a record-breaking qualifying lap on Friday night. Labonte’s lap of 31.211 seconds, at an average speed of 173.016 mph, eclipsed Todd Bodine’s track record set last season. For Labonte, it was his first pole in three races this season. Jeff Gordon will make out an all-Chevrolet front row, starting from the outside pole. Ryan Newman will start from the third position, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. starts fourth. Hometown boy Kurt Busch rounds out the top-five starting positions.
